NEET UG 2024: Correction window opens on Monday, how to make changes

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened the correction window for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024, presenting candidates with a final opportunity to rectify any mistakes in their application forms. This crucial phase in the pre-examination process is accessible via the official NEET portal at neet.nta.nic.in. Candidates are urged to make any necessary adjustments before the deadline of March 20, 11:50 PM, as there will be no extensions for corrections post this date.

Understanding the Correction Window’s Limitations

While the correction window allows for amendments in most sections of the application form, there are specific restrictions. Notably, changes to the email address provided at registration, the contact mobile number, and Aadhaar re-authentication are not permitted. This policy ensures the security and integrity of candidate information while still offering flexibility for corrections in other areas.

Additional fees may apply when making certain changes, especially if modifications in gender, category, or Persons with Disabilities (PwD) status result in a different fee structure. It’s important for candidates to review their application forms thoroughly and make any needed changes within the allotted time frame. However, it’s also crucial to understand that there will be no refunds for any additional payments made during this process.

Step-by-Step Guide to Making Corrections

To ensure a smooth and error-free correction process, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Official Website: Open your web browser and go to neet.nta.nic.in, the official portal for NEET UG 2024.
  2. Access the Correction Window: Look for the ‘correction window link’ on the homepage and click on it to proceed.
  3. Login to Your Account: Enter your NEET UG 2024 application number, the password created during registration, and the displayed security pin to log in to your account.
  4. Make Necessary Corrections: Once logged in, review your application form carefully and make any required changes. Remember, this is your last chance to correct mistakes or update information before the examination.
  5. Save and Submit: After making the adjustments, ensure you save the changes and submit the updated application form.
  6. Print a Copy: It’s advisable to take a printout of the corrected form for your records and future reference. This copy will serve as proof of the changes made, should any discrepancies arise later.

Final Thoughts

The correction window for NEET UG 2024 is a vital step in the application process, designed to ensure that candidates present the most accurate and updated information. By following the outlined steps and understanding the limitations of the correction window, applicants can navigate this phase effectively. Remember, the deadline is firm, and no further corrections can be made post-March 20, 11:50 PM. Therefore, candidates should act promptly to finalize their applications, setting the stage for a smooth examination experience.

Record-Breaking NEET-UG Registrations Surpass 25 Lakh Applicants

In an unprecedented milestone, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET-UG) registrations have shattered previous records, with over 25 lakh candidates applying for the medical entrance examination. This surge in applications marks a historic first for NEET UG, highlighting an increased interest in pursuing medical and allied health sciences education in India. The deadline for registration, which was on a Saturday, saw a flurry of activity, with a large number of students submitting their applications up until the late evening.

This year’s NEET-UG, scheduled for May 5th, has witnessed a remarkable increase in registrations, with the count reaching more than 25 lakh, a significant jump of over 4.2 lakh applicants from the previous year, 2023. Among these applicants, a striking majority of over 55%, equivalent to more than 13 lakh, are female candidates. This demographic shift underscores a growing trend of female students aspiring for careers in the medical field.

NEET-UG serves as the gateway to approximately 2.5 lakh seats in various medical and allied health sciences courses across the country. These include around 1,10,000 MBBS seats, over 26,000+ BDS (Dental) seats, 30000+ Ayurveda and a substantial number of seats in Unani, Homeopathy, Veterinary, and Nursing courses. The sheer volume of applicants this year reflects the competitive nature of the examination and the high demand for medical education in India.

In response to the unprecedented rush of applications, the authorities extended the deadline for submitting the application form to March 16th, providing prospective students with additional time to complete their registration process. This extension was a much-needed relief for many aspirants who were racing against time to ensure their candidacy for one of the most crucial examinations of their academic careers.

The examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), has evolved into one of the most sought-after entrance tests for students aiming to secure a place in medical colleges across the nation. The record-breaking number of registrations this year is a testament to the NEET-UG’s importance in the educational landscape and the aspirations of young Indians to pursue a career in healthcare.

As the date of the examination approaches, candidates are gearing up for what is poised to be a highly competitive battle for seats in prestigious medical institutions. With the number of applicants reaching new heights, the NEET-UG 2024 promises to be a landmark event in the annals of medical education in India, marking a new era of opportunity and challenge for the nation’s aspiring medical professionals.

NTA Announces Extension of NEET UG 2024 Registration Deadline to March 16

In a significant update for medical aspirants across India, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially extended the registration deadline for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET UG) 2024. This development comes as a relief to many candidates who were racing against time to submit their applications by the initially set deadline of March 9. With this extension, applicants now have until March 16 to complete and submit their forms for the highly competitive MBBS entrance exam. The announcement was made earlier today, signaling NTA’s commitment to accommodating the needs of all potential test-takers.

Candidates interested in applying for NEET UG 2024 are encouraged to visit the official website, neet.ntaonline.in, to access the application form and other pertinent information related to the examination process. This extension is expected to benefit a large number of students who are aiming to secure a seat in medical colleges across the country.

The registration fee structure for NEET UG 2024 has been clearly outlined, catering to candidates from various categories. For Indian candidates falling under the General Category, the registration fee is set at Rs 1,700. To support students from reserved categories, the NTA has provided fee relaxations: General-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates are required to pay Rs 1,600, whereas SC, ST, PwBD, and third gender candidates can avail of the reduced fee of Rs 1,000.

A noteworthy update in the examination rules pertains to the tie-breaking criteria used to decide rankings among candidates with equal scores. In a departure from previous practices that considered the candidates’ age and NEET UG application number, the new criteria prioritize academic performance. The order of priority for breaking ties is now based first on scores obtained in biology, followed by chemistry, and then physics. Additionally, if the need arises, the ratio of correct to incorrect answers will be taken into account, both across disciplines and within specific subjects.

This revision in the tie-breaking rules reflects NTA’s efforts to ensure a fair and merit-based selection process for aspiring medical students. By focusing on academic performance in the core subjects of biology, chemistry, and physics, the NTA aims to prioritize subject mastery in determining the eligibility of candidates for medical education.

As the deadline approaches, students are urged to complete their registration process well in advance to avoid any last-minute technical glitches. The extension of the registration deadline for NEET UG 2024 is a welcome move by the NTA, offering hopeful medical aspirants additional time to prepare and apply for one of the most crucial examinations of their academic careers.

Complaints of Irregularities in MBBS and MD/MS Seats Allocation in Delhi

Authorities have been alerted to irregularities in the allocation of MBBS and MD/MS seats in Delhi, leading to a significant investigation. The Delhi Police have confiscated computers belonging to two senior officials at the National Medical Commission (NMC) as part of this investigation. Additionally, police have questioned several senior officials from medical colleges.Times of India had exposed large-scale irregularities in this matter. Now, Delhi Police have also confirmed the validity of these reports.

According to a senior police officer, inspections were conducted at the office of the Medical Assessment And Rating Board (MARB) at NMC’s Dwarka premises. This move aims to aid in preventing unauthorized access to the premises during the period when permissions were being granted to increase seats in medical colleges. In Dwarka, police confiscated computers used by Sameer Sinha (former Deputy Secretary, MARB-NMC) and Prabhat Kumar (former Under Secretary). Both officials were interrogated, during which they denied sending any emails. It is believed that besides the footage, Delhi Police have also requested original and certified copies of the public notices and permission letters issued by NMC. This comparison will be made with the individuals who received them.

The Investigation and Possible Expansions:

Police are investigating the involvement of several senior officials at NMC and 4-5 medical colleges. An officer disclosed that increases in seat allocations were made for MBBS, MD, and MS programs. One college was granted permission to increase MS seats in Ophthalmology from 5 to 10, MD seats in General Medicine from 7 to 24, and MS seats in ENT from 1 to 4. Police have not yet revealed the exact number of seats fraudulently increased in various colleges. Last August, discrepancies were discovered in permission letters, leading to an investigation by NMC and subsequent complaints filed with the police.

Under the IPC, complaints were lodged for criminal conspiracy and fraud, along with Section 66C of the IT Act. The primary complaint was filed by A.K. Singh, former Deputy Secretary, MARB-NMC. In his complaint, Singh stated that various medical colleges were issued fake permission letters through the official email ID (ds.marb@nmc.org.in). Internal investigations have refuted claims of sending such emails or issuing unauthorized permission letters. Another officer allegedly increased seat allocations for several colleges via NMC’s website. Last year in August, NMC issued a notice declaring these permission letters invalid. These letters were not issued by the members/chairman and were deemed fraudulent. The police are nearing the conclusion of their investigation and anticipate arrests soon. Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora is closely monitoring the case.

Government asks private medical colleges to slash fees for 50% -Tamil Nadu

The state health department has told self financing medical colleges and deemed universities to charge fees on a par with government colleges for 50% of the seats. This means they should charge 13,610 a year, including a tuition fee of Rs 4,000, instead of 12 lakh. Tamil Nadu has 10,725 MBBS seats in 70 medical colleges 38 government, 19 self-financing colleges and 13 deemed universities. The state has the most government colleges, which charge one of the lowest fees. Until now admissions to deemed universities were merit based allotments by the directorate-general of health services. But these institutions don’t come under the fee fixation committee, unlike the self-financing medical colleges. Admission to self-financing colleges is done by the state selection committee. After the National Medical Commission sent guidelines in February, state health secretary P Senthil Kumar had conveyed this to the private institutions. “The colleges said they have moved court but, in the meanwhile, we have sent a letter to the fee fixation committee,”
